Kids Making Music
KAM supports the use of music to celebrate families, faith, and local culture. Music is one of the threads binds Appalachia together weaving history, faith, ethnic heritages, generations, and families together. One of KAM’s most popular ministries is our Kids Making Music Project. At KAM, we know that music is a wonderful way to help children and teens in Appalachia say "YES" to who they are and where they live. Mountain music includes many different kinds of music. Children have fun singing mountain folk songs, learning Cherokee dances, or just listening to their peers play traditional music, blue grass, or fusions of blues and folk. No matter where you live in North America (perhaps, you live in the Appalachian Mountains), you can encourage children and teens by supporting KAM’s Kids Making Music Project. Most important, KAM supports several local programs that know and honor the heritage of local music and culture.Like so many of our ministries, KAM has discovered we can make the most impact by teaming up with partners. As a result, KAM supports the “Passing the Pick and Bow” programs at Appalshop and Cowan Creek Mountain Music School near Whitesburg, Kentucky to help children and teens learn to play traditional mountain instruments. We also support selected programs within Appalachian public schools as our resources permit. You can become part of the Kids Making Music team by:
